Lab day 3

This is the final product of our lab. Now we will be calculating the mass and comparing it to the theoretical yield of FeCl2 and FeCl3 to determine if we formed Iron (II) or Iron (III)

Copper (II) Chloride Lab

This is a look at out lab before we see what the nail looks like when reacted together with CuCl2 and water

Quiz

Earlier this week we took a quiz over stoichiometry. Although the problems were simple to solve, they were tedious and very time consuming. I will have to move much faster on the test in order to complete all problems by the hours end.

Stoichiometry lesson

Today and Friday we learned how to setup and solve equations to find out how much reactants go into products in a reaction. The content is very easy but I will have to study answering the problems with questions asked in various doffuways for the quiz tomorrow.

Solubility Rules

I found this to be a very helpful link to memorizing the solubility rules!!!

Chemical reaction lab

Today we did a lab combining ionic compounds. Here's a glimpse pf what it looks like

Review Sheet

This is a practice sheet I found that helped me identify types of chemical reactions

Practice Sheet

Describing Chemical Equations

Today in class we learned how to describe chemical equations through molecular, complete ionic, and net ionic equations. The hardest part of this was identifying the polyatomic ions and writing the nomenclature. Also, I could see the rules of aqueous solutions becoming an issue because there are 11 of them and all of them all have exceptions. I really hope anyone reading this will say a prayer that this all comes together in my mind before the quiz and test.

Finding products from reactants

Today in class we learned how to find the product of a solution simply by seeing the reactants. And I'm going to use this lesson to predict that this unit will be now asier than the last. There are 11 rules to know of there will be a double replacement reaction or not and it was just a very discouraging leason all around

Chemical composition test

We took our unit test yesterday, and I feel like I am speaking on behalf of the majority of our class when I say it was terrible. I have had nightmares not as scary as this test. We barely had enough time to finish an 18 question quiz over this material, so a 36 question test was essentially the death of my grade. My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone who had to suffer for those grueling 55 minutes.

BFFLS

HAD FUN WITH MY FRIENDS IN CLASS TODAY!!!!

Mole conversions

This is a variation of a chart that we have been using in class

Formula of a Chloride Lab

Yesterday we had a lab in class over the mass and formula of Zinc chloride. My partner and I did not pass our pre lab quiz unfortunately but that was simply because once we realized how we had to solve the equation we had ran out of time. We were then given data by our teacher and asked to find the amount of Cl in the starting substance. Having just practiced how to do this type of problem on the pre-lab quiz, finding this answer was quite simple.

Chemical Composition quiz

Today we took the chemical composition quiz and it was pretty rough. Even the problems I knew how to do nd set up were a struggle because I kept second guessing myself. The multi step problems were also very tedious and I always felt like I was messing something up. We'll see what the grades look like...

Pre Lab quiz

Today we took a pre quiz before performing the Formula of Hydrate lab. I was not here in class on Friday so I had to get the notes from someone else. I didn't recieve teacher instruction so it took me much longer to complete the equation and I eventually ran out of time before completing the problem. I now feel like I understand the process and am confident that I will do good on the quiz tomorrow about the material we've covered this past week. Here's a picture of what we did instead of the lab today with data provided by the teacher.

Mole Conversion Lab

Yesterday we did a lab in class to practice converting grams of elements into moles, those into representative particles, and a bunch of different variations of that. We had to measure actual objects and find out how many particles in it, or figure out a mass and gather that quantity of material. Here is a picture of our lab set up

Chemical composition Pre-test

Today we took a pre test and I literally did now know a single question. There isn't much to say about something I don't know anything about other than say a prayer for the next 2 weeks!

Measurement Test

Today we took the measurement test. Having missed 2 days of class this week, I was very nervous heading into the test. But I found the test to be easier than I expected. I did get caught up on a few problems so I just saved those for the very end. I sharpened up on what I felt I needed to after the quiz and felt the new material we had learned was very easy so all in all I would say I feel very confident about this test.

Measurement Quiz

Yesterday we took our measurement quiz and if I'm being honest, it was pretty easy. The only thing I had trouble with is that I was rounding to significant numbers while adding, not significant digits, so I had to go back at the end and fix those answers. Other than that, however, the quiz was quite easy.

Mole Day

In honor of National mole day, we had a project where we were required to make a stuffed mole with a theme. My theme was "guacaMOLE" so I make my mole green and placed it in a bowl if tortilla chips. My personal favorite mole was one of my classmates that was themed as a "stripper mole" and she put a mole in a provocative outfit on a spinning globe like it was dancing on a pole.

Pre-Lab Quiz

Today we took the pre-lab quiz for the asprin lab. I was not the only one in my group who didn't pass but nevertheless, I did not pass. I was focused on memorizing too general of concepts like the procedure and products and reactants. I didn't not study those things because I was being lazy, I simply didn't think to. Next time, I will focus on knowing chemical formulas and quantities as well as those general concepts.

Unit Test

Today we took the unit test over atomic structure and radioactivity. I would have to say it was a relatively east test, but I'll keep my fingers crossed considering I felt the same way about our last test. I would definitely say I felt more comfortable with the material concerning the unit we covered rather than the review questions but I do feel I was refreshed and got the hang of them the further into the test I got.

Half Life Lab

Today in class we did a Half Life lab, but because our teacher had a headache we resorted to pieces of paper to represent radioactive atoms instead of the obnoxiously noisy pennies that are traditionally used in classrooms abroad. What we did is we cut a 12" by 12" piece of paper into 576 1/2" squares, which is an extremely tedious task, and placed them into a cup. We then dumped them out and counted the number of squares that were faced up still. Then those were put back into the cup and this process was repeated 5 times. This is supposed to represent how the process of radioactive decay works.

Isotopes quiz

Today we took a quiz over atoms and isotopes. This quiz was rather easy until the last 8 questions where we were asked about historic scientists and their influence on the discoveries of the atom. I had paid so much attention to the actual material and manipulating the formula I didn't really go over the scientists and their impacts much during my studying. I remembered a fair amount about them during our lesson in class but I will definitely remember to go over them a few times before any more quizzes and tests from here on out during this unit.

Isotopes lesson

Today in class we learned about the composition of isotopes. I do remember learning these things freshman year but I did not actually retain the information so it was nice to go over it again. This information would've made the pretest last week significantly easier.

nomenclature pt. 2

Test review

During the nomenclature unit, I was very surprised my my test grades. I was at mastery for all types of naming on the quiz but must have made many simple mistakes in my confidence on the actual quiz because I did not receive mastery on 3 of the subunits on the Nomenclature quiz. This was actually a rather humbling experience because before this I thought this class was going to be a piece of cake,; nevertheless, I was wrong.

Introduction

My name is Evan Green and I am a junior at FHHS. I enjoy all sports, but I only play hockey and baseball. My two dogs names are Cozmo and Vella. When I grow up, I want to be a surgeon.
